Featured is a
pretty fossil fish. Note that the brown spots are fossilized scales from
the fish. Related to today’s shad, Diplomystus was likely the primary
food source for many of the lake’s predatory fish. Some Diplomystus
fossil specimens are very large, however this 3 inch specimen is just
right for a shelf display.
This specimen was obtained from an old collection. I
cannot relate the history of this particular piece.
