This is a large, hard to find trilobite from the famous Rochester
Shale.
Trimerus are among the largest trilobites in this formation, and among
the most desireable. This specimen is laterally folded over on itself,
a common presentation of the species. The cephalon is missing the left
eye, otherwise the specimen may be considered complete. The shell is
thin or absent over parts of the specimen, again, typical of the species
preservation in the Rochester.
The high quality Trimerus layers in the quarry are no longer available,
and only a couple complete specimens are found each year. This is
the only large one I have available.
