It is
difficult to find large multiples of any insects in a small piece of
matrix. Here is a beautiful piece of copal. This elongated clear
yellow nugget contains more than 10 very well preserved termites,
a few which have small bubbles emanating from the digestive tract. (FYI
– once the termite was encased, the bacteria in its gut continued to
digest the wood, creating the gases that formed the bubbles.) The
amber has an inclusion trail of something that managed to dig itself out
of the tree sap. The back side of this specimen has the pattern of the
bark, and was left rough to show off the insect specimens to their
finest. |
