It
is difficult to find large multiples of any insects in a small
piece of matrix. Here is a beautiful piece of copal This
clear yellow nugget contains 3 very well preserved termites, a few
which have small bubbles emanating from the digestive tract. (FYI
– once the termite was encased, the bacteria in its gut continued
to digest the wood, creating the gases that formed the bubbles.)
The back side of this specimen was left rough to show off the
pattern of the bark and to show the insect specimens to their
finest. |
