The Budenbach trilobites are quite
famous. The shale is mined for lithographic plates, and periodically, an
amazing fossil is found within the flat shale.
This specimen was obtained from an old collection. This specimen is
unprepared. The pygidium and thorax are slightly visible, the cephalon
is buried and would be access from the back side of the matrix. There
is a slight bulge at the base of the matrix suggesting the cephalon is
indeed present. Preparation of the Hunsruch Shale is unique and
challenging, in that the matrix is very hard and the trilobites are
softer than the matrix.
This is an
opportunity to pick up some unprepped fossils from a distant locality!
Unprepared material is typically unpredictable, thus I cannot guarantee
how these specimens will turn out.
